I plan to have a website on widgetology, starting with the example of widget1 and maybe later expanding to widget2 and 3. All widget-subjects will offer enough content for an own little website, so I currently think about two possible structures:

1.) Folders:

www.widgetology.com/widget1
www.widgetology.com/widget2

2.) Subdomains:
www.widget1.widgetology.com/
www.widget2.widgetology.com/

I wonder what is better for SEO? Any experience? Thanks,

W.

www.widgetology.com/widget1
www.widgetology.com/widget2

will be better solution.
Otherwise, if you will use subdomains Google will consider them like the separated web sites and put them at "sandbox" for half-year.
New web pages at subfolders will bring your domain more rank and raise count of low frequency key phrases match immediately.

Putting them in folders also increases the count for the pages on your domain. I have at least 4 sub folders that are actually different interests of mine from my main domain (web design vs poetry and etc) yet my web design site gets the credit for all the pages because i have a link back to my main home page on all them.
