Are banners dead?

I started my site about a year and half ago, now receiving around 1,000 visitors a day and about 6,000 page impressions. I've always relied on affiliate links to bring the money in, but I'm wondering if I might mix it a bit with selling banner space. Is there much point in pursuing this idea? how do I go about selling space?

A lot of people these days are banner blind.

Ie they just mentally blank out banners... i know for SURE i do this, i couldnt tell you the last banner i saw if my life depended on it.

Yet if u use creative text, it appears more authentic, and for me, gets better click throughs.

Also you might want to try changing the "Banner" into an image that doesnt look anything like a banner.
