How do I get this thing off my machine

I have a screen capture, but don't know how to put it in a post?

This search bar thing has invaded my machine. It makes itself look like part of IE.

What is it and how do I make it go away?

search an SE for scum-ware or spy ware. Some of the better known freebie downloads are spy-bot and ad-aware, but others exist too.

It's probably an Active-X browser plug-in. Some install without even clicking to give permission. There's a security hole in IE prior to IE6 so it pays to get a patch or upgrade.

I had the same thing; it replaced the Google toolbar and AdAware got rid of it. I understand there's another product out there but I've read some drawbacks about it.
