I am in need for a way to edit a simple web page by using a web based gui editor (php or perl script). The more it looks/feels like MS WORD the better. It's for a non profit organization and the person using it will do simple edits.

Something like this [interspire.com...] - but free.

thanks,
Joe

I think they are looking for a web-based editor. Quanta is a locally-installed editor that uses KDE on Linux. (May also be available for Windows?) Don't think that is what they are looking for.

There are literally zillions of these things. Plenty of them for free.

You need to narrow it down a bit, though. Will they be editing local HTML pages, or pages that are on the server?

If "pages on the server", you may be better served with a simple CMS or a blogging package, because they have features for keeping track of what was updated and when, etc.

Is it essential that they use HTML at all? There are quite a number of simple CMS and blog packages that don't require or use HTML for input.

FCKeditor might be a good starting place. But I suggest you back up and think a bit more about what you are really trying to accomplish. Often, when I see a vague "I need a..." post, it means the poster needs to think about a more about the problem, rather than jumping ahead to the solution.

The commercial product you mentioned is NOT a "web based editor", though. It is a CMS.

OK I would imagine that a WYSIG editor something like Dreamweaver or front page then would be more suitable.
