Well, I look at it like this-- the less they understand of what I do, the less they mess with me. So they don't yell at me when I do badly, but they don't praise me when I do well either. I guess you sacrifice the glory for the, well, autonomy.
Because you know there really isn't much glory to be had, and there's a whole lot of micromanaging to be had if they think they know what you do.
I've got some more "low hanging fruit" to attack to try and start the long road to 8.
Dragonlady : Good points. I really do enjoy the autonomy I have. There are a few people that I meet with to discuss major stuff, but for the most part I do fly solo and it is very enjoyable. I did have experience with a bit of micromanagement early on, but it disapeared after a few well educated discussions :)
And as I mentioned before there was a small drive to encourage people who should be linking to us to actually do so, it had mediocre success but all of the little bits seem to have added up :)

It's often the little bits that make all the difference - for both users and search engines.

Thanks for sharing your methods. I've setup our site as you have done now from the beginning, so think we're about as SEO'd in terms of page rank as we can be. I asked because you never know what you may have missed.......
And again, WELL DONE!
