Problem with my Favorites being redirected

Okay, I have no idea if I'm posting this in the correct place. There are a million topics and threads on this forum. I have been having a problem with some sites I try to access. An example: When I click a link in my favorites folder I get taken to Google's search page, only it isn't a blank search page, it is a search page for various porn stuff. It'll say "women sexy legs" or "#*$! passwords" or whatever. This is called a redirect, right? I run Avast! Anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Spysweeper. I ran all three and fixed whatever problems it found but this redirect problem still occurs. I asked a few people; one person said it's a site problem. I doubt this because this happens with a handful of sites I try to access. Not only that, but I know that other people can access these sites no problem. The other person said there was something corrupt with ony of my system processes but didn't know what it was.

So I did a search for this type of problem and most of the results that came up were about some Google 302 redirect problem. I am curiosu to know if this is what my problem is. I also noticed that many people with this problem downloaded HijackThis and posted their results in a help forum to get assistance with deleting harmful spyware or anything else. So, this is what I have done, and if I am in the correct place, please let me know so I may post my results here. Thank you very much.

Hello Teratogen, and welcome to the forums.

We may move this discussion to a different forum, depending on whether it turns out to be a Google problem or something about your browser.

A couple questions to clarify the situation:

When I click a link in my favorites folder I get taken to Google's search page,

1. Is this favorite supposed to go to Google, but just not to that particular search?

this happens with a handful of sites I try to access. Not only that, but I know that other people can access these sites no problem

2. Does it happen every time you try to access these sites, or just some of the time?

3. Does it only happen with bookmarks/favorites? How about directly typing in the address you want?

4. Please explain a bit more about why a 302 seems to be involved. In my experience a 302 will affect everyone who tries to access a site. It either has 302 in place or it doesn't. What are you seeing that suggests a 302?

5. Do you have another browser installed? If so, does it get differet behavior?

The favorite is not supposed to go to Google. It is just supposed to go to a website.

This is happening ALL the time, not some of the time. It started a little over a week ago and I'm trying to figure out the cause. At first I thought it was only a handful of sites, mainly because I only went to those few. But now I've noticed there's plenty of others that are giving me the same problems. Not only that, but it seems that some of them send me to these Google search pages and the rest send me to some pornographic TGP sites.

I only have a couple of them in my favorites, and others are ones I just come across. Even if I type them in I still get redirected.

I don't know exactly what a 302 problem consists of, but when I do a search for my problem, the Google 302 thing is what comes up most of the time. I thought maybe this was it since my problem has something to do with Google. The funny thing is, I mostly use the Yahoo search function and Yahoo is my homepage. However, with your information so far it doesn't seem to be the 302 problem, because I know other people can view these sites no problem.

I currently use IE, but also have Firefox as well. I only really use Firefox, however, if IE isn't working for some reason. But I have tried both browsers to access these sites and they both do the same thing.

I hope the answers to these questions are sufficient.

The other person said there was something corrupt with ony of my system processes but didn't know what it was.

Most likely a trojan or loader program serving up other network sites.

Is your anti virus definitions up to date, and does that software check for trojans.

It is some sort of spyware/adware. I had a similar problem last year of weird links showing up in Google, dressed as search results. I forgot now what I did. It might help to try HijackThis to look for programs that shouldn't be there.

Also, this topic does not belong here. It has nothing to do with Google itself.

Okay, I was unsure as to where exactly to post this, as I previously said. Thank you for taking the necessary steps to place it in the correct thread. There are a million and one threads here!

I am currently running my anti-virus program. I am using Avast! I had run Spysweeper last night and it said there was a Trojan, but I thought I had gotten rid of it. I try to make sure that my anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are up to date. I use Avast! for anti-virus and SpyBot and Spysweeper for anti-spyware. It was suggested to me to use AVG but when I downloaded the free version it said it doesn't run on 64-bit, which is what I have.

I also read about HijackThis, so I downloaded it and ran it and saved the results, as I had also previously said. If I post the results here is there anyone who may be able to decipher them for me and let me know what actions need to be taken? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you all for your help so far.

Try Ad-Aware by LavaSoft, and Ewido AntiSpyware as well -- both free.

There are dedicated forums for getting help with Hijack This!, and you may get better/faster answers there. In fact, they may have already dealt with your particular problem before, and have that information available.

So far I have created an account at Spywareinfo.com, and they said I'd be e-mailed a notification and a link to click like all forums do when you join. I have yet to recieve that e-mail, and because of it I cannot post anything on the message boards! It's been all day and I have not recieved that e-mail. So... the situation is still in progress.
