Dear Board Techies and Programming Gurus:

I'm creating a new website to sell online goods. It is a joint effort with my mother. We now have a tax ID number and a joint bank account. I'm also going to be setting up a means to accept credit card transactions online.

I have a site that is evolving which you can check out. It is called <snip>

The links somewhat work on the CURRENT main page <snip>. However, all the pages (in those links) are getting changed into a cohesive template, which I am designing myself (including all the colors and gradients). You can see the evolving design of the new template at <snip>

HERE ARE THE PROBLEMS:

There is a page that will eventually be the main page to the site, which I'm currently working on fixing the errors in the drop-down menu (navigation links). The drop-down menu works great in Firefox. However, IE doesn't recognize the features, even though IE is supposed to be able to accept all the features (of a drop-down menu) and do a few more than are available on Firefox. Here is the page that is being debugged (for the navigation links): <snip>
Does anyone know what is hanging up the code in that page <snip> to cause IE not to display the navigation drop-down menu properly?

I'm having another browser issue concerning a more trivial matter. I created a favicon in a .gif file format. It appears on Firefox. However, IE accepts (only) .ico file formats for favicons. My computer does not have a program to convert files to .ico format. I found a trial-offer program, many moons ago, that converts files into that format, but it screwed up my images (since I wouldn't pay for their #*$!ty software). Does anyone know a program (preferably free) that converts files to .ico format?

Lastly, and this question is very important: Because the online business will be handling online purchases, I need an interactive (constantly-updating) database that will keep track of inventory items as they are sold. Otherwise, it is conceivable to sell one single item (with only one item left in inventory) multiple times within a single day. Therefore, I need a database. I know there are companies which offer paid packages (especially for online transactions) that incorporate a database such as I have mentioned. Does anyone know of any available programs with pre-written code for a database? My server (<snip>) is able to accept both PHP and .asp.

Thank you all in advance.

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Welcome To WebmasterWorld! [webmasterworld.com]

Unfortunately you are not allowed to post personal links on forums, so that will be removed at some point. Instead of posting links it is recommended that you post snippets of code relevant to the problem you are having. (if the problem is programming related)

Also you will find that you are more likely to get a better response if you post one question at a time, especially when, as in your case, those questions are in different catagories.

Hope that will help you. :)

Oh oh.... So sorry.

I found this forum not long ago (maybe 2 weeks?) while searching for some web design stuff. I didn't really read the guidelines. Sorry about that.

It's ok to remove the personal links. The site is not set up yet. It is just in the initial stages.

I'll try to tailor the questions to the separate boards too. No worries.
