Any advantage of being there to set up website?

Hi,

We are expanding our UK business into Australia and i would really like to move out there and work on the new company website.

I know we could quite easily manage it here in the UK but are there any big advantages to actually being re-located there to do it.

the ones I can see would be:

Finding and speaking to potential partner sites
Viewing site stats real time rather than the day after
Being there for any web marketing enquiries that come in

Can anyone think of any more reasons to try to convince my boss to send me there?

None of your three reasons require you to be in Australia.

A more realistic option would be to look at hosting and domain name issues.

My understanding is that only Australian businesses can have .com.au names; you need that, +/- local hosting, to do well on Australian searches.

It is also my understanding that Australian searches in Australia matter much more than UK searches in the UK.

Please do not take this advice without checking carefully; I'm also in the UK, and I may be wrong, - things may have changed.

Please don't take this as gospel but my understanding is...

I would expect that to actually employ you in australia you would need the boss to set up a business in the country, and that requires a substantial investment (A$500,000+ i think...)to get permission.

Once set up they would have to prove you're able to do the job better than an aussie and sponsor your entry.

Hi again,

We will be setting up a business out there. We have plans to have the office is Brisbane and have around 6-10 staff employed there. We already have the domain name secured and the company is in the process of getting set up through solicitors in Sydney. We are established and are well known in our area in the UK market

We are in the financial services sector, but it is a very niche area, which i have a lot of knowledge about, so this may be enough for me to be able to get the company to sponsor my entry. Our service would differ slightly in Australia as the laws are not exactly the same, but very similar.

But, does anyone have any suggestions why it may be better to be there rather than here in the UK?

Or, are you all from Oz and want to keep people like me out? ;-)

Sounds to me like you would get in ok, the company is putting in substantial investment and employing locals. You (hopefully for you!) are critial to the success as you're already an important member of staff and will be needed to help develop the local staff.

Get scrounging is all i can say, Brissy is my second favourite aussie city after perth, no sea beaches but warm to very hot all year round and queensland is falling over itself with amazing wildlife, locations and scenery, far far more to it than just the reef and fraser island.
