Hiya All

I have 3 websites and between them they get approx 35,000 visits and 4,000,000 pageviews a month.

I was just wondering in an ideal world <snip> how much revenue shoud this create...

i know this is like asking how long is a piece of string but i am talking in the general sence.

Example

I cant see why it wouldnt be making a minimal of X a month

<snip>

Thanks

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Without trying to be a dork -- the websites will generate a negative minimum, due to hosting/maintenance/etc. There is no guarantee that a site will make any money.

That being said, it is actually extremely difficult to set a price tag on money that can possibly be generated. It all depends on what type of site it is, who your audience is, and how you plan on making the money. Are you going to make money based on donations only? Or advertising? AdSense? Selling products? Affiliate links? Sponsors? The variables are way too varying to make any form of guarantee.

What _can_ be said, however, is that you should be able to "make money." Just how much depends on how you go about making the money, and your marketing strategy for doing so.

Hiya thats for the reply...

Yea i know it was a bit of a vage question...

More info

They are proxy sites and 90% of traffic is from the US...

I have adsense on them at the minute and they made approx 100 in september...

But i am open minded to other revenue streams as i plan to redesign 1 of the 3 sites and then upgrade to another server and bring a few more proxy's on board...

That being said hope this more info help :-)

Thanks

The question cannot be definitively answered.

It's like asking how much should a street vendor be making if 100 people a day stop and view his wares.

Is he selling fake Rolexes?
Is he reading palms?
Is he unwashed, stinky, and repellant?
Is he a highly attractive male with a charming smile?

Re a website:
Is it about celebrities?
Is it a forum about celebrities?
Is it badly designed (rare is the webmaster who admits this)?
Is it a template?
Is it about a low traffic niche about a low margin product?

There are so many variables that giving you a definitive answer is not possible.

Btw, traffic by itself is not a metric for earnings. You have to measure it against the topic, and what is for sale, profit margins, etc. Financial related leads are more profitable than electronic audio leads. Margins are lower on home electronic products and the amount a vendor will share (or pay through AdSense) is going to be significantly less than on a financial services lead.

I'm not asking for specifics, either because site reviews are discouraged at WebmasterWorld. If you're smart you're going to avoid dropping specifics anyway because you may not want to out yourself to competitors.

Maybe what you need is to know how to figure it out yourself. One shortcut is to take a look at the main topics your site is relevant for and should be ranking for within the Overture Inventory Tool. You should get a rough idea of traffic. Then compare that with the Overture Bid Tool to get an idea of how much per click those topics receive. From there do the math using a conservative 2-3% CTR on ads, with estimated traffic- but remember, the overture bid tool is only showing you max amounts, your actual EPC is likely much lower.

$100?

$100 seems pretty low for 4,000,000 page views if that's what you meant.
I would think 4,000,000 page views would bring you more in the neighborhood of $5000. Even a 1% CTR would bring in a lot more than $100.
