Apparently you have a custom 404 error page called 404.shtml defined somewhere; When a missing page is requested, the 404.shtml page is called. This may lead to an "infinite loop" if the 404.shtml page itself is missing.
You might want to post a few lines of your log file showing these errors (after removing your domain name to comply with WebmasterWorld TOS). That may get you a better answer.

I recently moved all of my image files from my root directly to www.bluewidgets/images/ and added /images to the robots.txt file as to not index so I am getting alot of
404 errors as the spiders try to index the old .jpg files that have moved.
Hopefull this clears up soon, I have over 300 images so it was difficult to do a redirect on each one.
