.Com and .EU - can same content be used in both?

I have a recently come across a company that has recently bought the .EU domain for their company name.This is a big company with global presence.Their corporate site (.com) is already well established and ranks high in all search engines for all relevant keywords and is considered sort of authority in their industry.

the question is,now that we have the .eu domain, can we have the same content in it as the corporate site or do we need to have separate content all together?

I know considering the different market segment in terms of geographical segmentation the content should be different but what do you think will be the search engine's stand point? Will they allow the same content on both .com and .eu domain or treat them as duplicate content?
