don't know why, but my cousine installed pbar.net toolbar and the computer.. and when I removed it.. I noticed that the default search on the IE bar are not going anymore to google, but going to netselected.com.. it is kinda browser hijeck and I was wodnering if anyone can help me out and give me the proper string for the default search url.

Current String in the regedit file is

Default_Search_URL
http://pbar.net/PBar/custom_search.php?lang=2&bar_id=0

Search Page
http://pbar.net/PBar/custom_search.php?lang=2&bar_id=0

Does anyone what should I update this to, so it will work along with the settings on the IE 6

Thanks for the help.

>>default search on the IE bar

I thot the default search on the IE bar went to MSN not Google. Are you perhaps thinking of the Google Toolbar? It sounds suspiciously like there is still a rogue toolbar installed in your IE. Have you tried running Spybot or AdAware?

Yes it did went to MSN, but I clicked on the "search button", and had my search customized to search at Google (for address bar).

Yup I have.. but the funny thing is.. the bug is still there.. and now when I read the finelines.. it kinda tells me they will be tracking pratically everything through the adddress bar.

I also tried to remove all the specifications for pbar.net from regedit file and change it to default msn search... and trust me at this time there is *not a signle* mention of pbar.net in any where in regedit file, but still the default search goes to their site and not only that all urls I typed in takes longer then usual to load..

lol.. for last few hours I am backing up all the important files and am reformating the HD.. eventhough this is a small and stupid problem.. I think reformat will help me get rid of this problem and I also need to free up more space and remove unused tools.

well I was just wondering if anyone ever had similer experiences?

Hi NeedScripts,

I installed the pbar toolbar (as told about here [webmasterworld.com...] ) recently.

Since then, my internet explorer has broke and I have been using Mozilla. I have tried updating internet explorer but no joy. Having read this thread and the one linked to above, I now guess that it is more than likely to be the installation of pbar! :(

I am just waiting for the right time to format my system and start again - but great post in the other thread - makes me wanna read the small-print much close in future.

Hi wruk999,

Sorry for the mishap, I wish you would have found about my experience little earlier... it could have saved you tons of hours of work.

Well have fun burning CDs/DVDs for backup :)

hey folks,

check out "Spybot - Search and Destroy" and Ad-Aware... one of them should find pbar and be able to nullify its effects... i know that the spybot support forums also recommend to get "hijackthis" and use it sometimes in cases like this...

make sure you get the real ones of these... spybot has had numerous people make their own copies and use some of spybot's stuff in theirs... the real spybot is by patrick kolla... Ad-Aware is by lavasoft and i'm only aware of one place to get hijackthis and the spybot forums give that info...

HTH...

Yup I got reformat and am back online.. it tooks like 6 hours.. but I a glad.. as now I am having additional 40GB disk space free up. (removed unwanted programs and files)..

Also, I am not sure if disabling browser helper would work, cuz it seemed like any data typed in the address bar was going to pbar first and then you were able to see the page.

But o well.. now I am going to be more careful and have pbar.net & Netselected.Com as blocked site :)
