spiderability of links in server side includes

Hi,

(Hope I placed this in the right section of the forum)

I have read that placing links (for a nav bar for instance) in an include file does not cause spidering issues for the pages that will use the common links. (Is that true?)

When I look at an example page using lynx I do not see the links from the server side include. I expected to see them there since I have been led to believe that using a text based browser is a good way to "see" the page like a bot.

Can someone straighten me out?

If you are using a server-side include (SSI), then it will be added to the document in by the server before the page is ever sent -- so yes, a text browser should definitely see it. Are you, by chance, using some other kind of "include" tehcnology?

Sorry for the dumb post.
I was using lynx on the same machine as the webserver but browsing using the filesystem (/var/www/html/subdirectory/index.shtml). When I used another linux machine and browsed through the webserver the links are there.
