I did some searching through the archives, and the consensus seemed to be:
- Most, if not all current spiders are able to handle virtually hosted sites.
- If someone on your IP spams, you're in deep doo-doo.
However, the last thread I read was dated over a year ago.
Is my understanding still correct? I'm still keeping my 'mission critical' site on a fixed hosting plan for now, but I'm testing the waters with my blog and another under-construction type site or two.
I'd definitely love to hear your thoughts about whether I should be wary signing up with a virtual host.
(For the record, this is a relatively small but seemingly quite professional mom-n-pop hosting firm that caters towards bloggers... not your typical spamhaus-attracting place. Or so it seems! ;)
We run our network, mail servers, firewalls, everything. That way we can get to the bottom of any problems quickly without waiting in a ticketeed support queue.
We do use virtual servers - using PLESK. We do SEO and have never had any problems.
