Anyone else having trouble with websites hosted in BC or Washington state?

Got up this morning to find out that not only is my server down but I can't recieve email on that domain either. Called the host and they say that because of a forest fire on the Washington - BC border, their fiber-optic lines have been damaged, and won't be repaired until the fire is put out. That could take several days or even weeks!

Anyone else having this problem, and does anyone know of some sort of compensation I should ask for? I'm loosing money every minute that my website is down :(

Thanks,
Matt

Sign up with some other hosting company for a small account. (for temporary and fallback usage)

Change your DNS entries to point to this new server. (Do this as soon as you get the info. It can take days to propogate.)

Go to your backup(you do have a backup, right?) and upload a copy or a placeholder for your site.

Wait for the world to catch up, and the fires to go out.

Decide if you need a better solution for hosting, or at least better reduncancy in your email.

I went to about ten sites I know are hosted in BC without any problems, but I am also in BC.

In the meantime, sign up for another host as an interim solution - you definitely don't want your site down for weeks.

Sign up but also mirror the sites, you may have a problem with DNS and G rankings. G are notoriously slow in updating their DNS DB so you may want to start a new site temporarily.....

Yeah..frustrating stuff. I can't access the host's website either, all their stuff is down.

I'd really like to avoid having to go through the process of setting up a new host and all that. But doesn't look like I'll have a choice...gotta start looking around.

Thanks for the info guys.

My host is located in the interior of bc, and I'm on van island. No trouble here, but I guess they've got lots of trouble in that region.
