You can test to see if you are vulnerable to the messenger service ads by typing this at a command prompt:

C:\> net send 127.0.0.1 This could be an ad

If you get a box with the text, you should probably follow advanthost's instructions for turning off the service...I would anyhow. :)

If you are getting those ads that is the least of your problems. That means you do not have a firewall and are be bombared every day by hackers. If you buy a new dell computer plug it into cable modem you will get hacked and you will have viruses. GET A FIREWALL! or turn on the XP firewall if you have XP.

I moveed a few months ago and could not find my firewall becasue it was in a box. I also had not got around to installing anti virus yet. Once I got around to putting up the firewall and anti virus I had a ton of viruses on my computer.
