To keep with the terms of service, here's a summary:

A US alert was distributed Thursday among US Govt. agencies warning of a "widespread scanning and explotation" of computers by hackers.

The Homeland Security Dept. watching the brewing hacker activity as a warning sign. The unusual alert issued said it could cause a "significant impact" on the internet.

Experts advised Internet Explorer users to download the latest patch at Microsoft, offered since July 16.

Hope that helps,

Politics aside, it sounds fishy when an agency that's been reported to have been granted sweeping powers [wired.com] to monitor Americans citizens, is investing $1.3 billion in Silicon Valley, so on and so on... gets in the business of issuing patch warnings, man, that's just weird.
