I have a client who is planning on asking people to donate a small fee through his website. She is under the impression that donations are not taxable, does anyone know if this is fact? The website owner is living in the UK, but taking donations world-wide.

Thanks

I don't know the specifics for U.K. tax law, but under U.S. tax law, any income is taxable. If you could make it non-taxable by calling it a "donation" every employee in the nation would demand that their paychecks be "donated: to them instead of paid to them. I assume ofhter countries have similar rules.

Of course, all the income can be offset by expenses.

I would think hat only a registered, not for profit , charity would have donations exempt from tax.

The famous "donation" button found in many places on the internet , can be said to be a form of,,,,, tip,

Tips are probably taxable in most places
