Panic, panic, panic: My site is hosted by the self-declared Number 1 in the business and this morning it went offline.

Checking my account, it shows that it was locked - I don't know why, there is not phone number given (anymore) that I could call and the support has yet not responded to my e-mails. I can't even re-direct the domain to a backup on a different server.

What should I do? Wait for responses to my e-mails?

Do you have access to the domain registration data (e.g. with Network Solutions or Dotster)? If yes, find a new host.

That in itself is enough to change hosts.

Panic, panic, panic

You rang?

I'd suggest waiting to hear back from the hosting company. I'd also suggest looking for a new host in the meantime.

In the event that you don't hear back from the hosting company, you should go with another hosting service & switch out the DNS settings.

Nothing on the company's web site? Even if it's not a tech support number, at least it's a starting point. If the company's web site doesn't have any numbers listed, check the whois info for their domain name.

Maybe they used to have a phone number listed? Try archive.org and look at older versions of their site.

I've only seen accounts locked for a few reasons:

1) The monthly, quarterly, yearly hosting fee was not paid.
2) The domain name has expired and was not renewed. (This is assuming you purchased your domain name through the hosting company.)

But you should be able to do a web search and locate a technical support number.

Thanks for your help (support?), the sites are still off and so am I - I'll change hosts.

Is there a way of giving names of major players in the business that doesn't violate WW rules? I need a reliable host for a small package that will host my sites on a US server and will accept me as a non-US client.

Thanks! W.

Thanks for the advice (stickied)! Regarding the support form my previous host: 24 hours now, no response by e-mail yet. I called their non-tech office to connect me with someone from the technology section, at least I know now where to phone.
