redirecting urls

HI,

Let's say I have a page called bluewidgets.html

but that is an old page and I want to redirect it to blueandwhitewidets.html

Now I do that , will the first url, bluewidgets.html eventually be dropped by the search engines?

I've put a permanent redirect on
