Throttling Down

How do I throttle my internet connection to view a website?

I'm working with a target audience that has connections of 33k (rolls-eyes: don't ask). I'm working on a 5000mb connection. So its awfully hard for me to check how my sites load on that type of connection.

I know dreamweaver has a little tool that tells you how long it'll take on various connections, but the site is very dynamic, so it cant really give a good indication.

Assuming that someone has had a similar problem, does anyone know a way to throttle my own connection down to such speeds so I can see how the site would perform? Or something like it?

I'll take all that extra bandwith giving you problems. ;)

Seriously, though- how about get a dial-up account from your current ISP or phone company? The cost would be negligible compared to your fat pipe, and you have a real-world way to test your pages on an actual dial-up instead of an attempted simulation.

Haha, those speeds are only at work... sure wish I had it at home!

Thats not a bad idea, now all I gotta do is find a 33k modem.

I use a tool called WebSpeed Simulator from xat.com
It resides on your PC and acts as a server fitting between your Browser and Connection. Works very very Well.

56k modems frequently download at 33k or less. Don't you have a modem on your desktop or notebook? Find out your ISP dial up number and plug in.
