I recently received an (unsolicited) email from a website called top100webshops.com. It claims that if I place a small graphical button or textual link (that they supply) on my website, I'll get a free listing with their service that will "increase the link popularity and traffic of my site." Does anyone here have any experience with this service? If so, does it in fact have the effect that it claims or is this just another internet scam? Thanks in advance.

Two rules that will give you a head start in life;

  1. If it's too good to be true it often is, but if you really want to try it make sure you do thorough research before committing anything you can't afford to lose.
  2. If the offer which is too good to be true arrives on a spam you might as well bin it. Good offers don't get passed blindly to random strangers - they get passed from person to person in a viral fashion. Besides if it was an honest offer you'd have heard of it by now.

Being cold and technical for a moment the only people I see this benefitting is the wannabe directory, they get a lot of incoming links with control over the link anchor text.

If they really could supply a stream of quality traffic just by adding you into their directory you'd have heard about it here before because it would be on someone's big list of resources.

Secondly they'd be charging you for this service because I guarantee you they'd make a fortune very quickly to the point that they'd have webmasters chomping at the bit wanting to get some of the action.
