I'm still getting pop ups with google toolbar, and yes, pop up blocker is on...

Any further suggestions?

Best pop-up blockers that I've found are Opera or Mozilla/Firebird. Not only do they stop all unrequested popups, they're both pretty nice browsers, too (once you get used to tabbed browsing and mouse gestures, its tough to go back!).
I have the google toolbar installed, and its nice, but I've noticed that it blocks some requested pop-ups, so I don't trust it yet. Besides, with Opera or Moz/Firebird, you get a much better browser.
Also, if you're still getting popups with the new Google toolbar, you may have spyware running in the background serving up the popups. You may want to run Ad Aware or some other spyware scrubber to make sure that isn't a source of unwanted popups.

Also run ad aware and to be honest makes no difference to the unrequested grey pop up adds that just appear in open browser.

One recurrent one is advertising software to block all pop ups, I hate this kind of irritating marketing!

May have a look at the alternative browsers, to see if a solution is given.

I've used "NoAds" and really like the product. You can selectively choose what pop-ups you want to kill, by full URL or wildcard.

It's a nice feature - some pop-ups I need to see, others I don't.

Ahh the grey pop up problem!

You need to do something in windows setup to stop them.

1 guy on these forums told me how to stop them but I cant remember how to do it!

Try a site search about it?!

This sounds like windows messenger spam, not browser-based popups - this type will have the title 'messenger service'.

If this sounds like the case, do the following (for XP/2000):

Go to start-> run -> and type services.msc

A 'services' window will popup. Scroll down to messenger, right click on it and choose properties. In the properties window, choose startup type 'manual'.

The messenger service is intead for network admin messengers. It's pretty much obsolete, however spammers have found ways to send spam to it, so it's wise to disable it in any case.

Not if you don't ever use remote networking to give someone else access to your computer, AFAIK.

Well, you now can't use >NET SEND... I use this constantly for messaging flatmates...
