Does a site for USA market, be hosted in the USA

We have decided to target the usa market, should our sites be hosted in the USA. Will this make things faster there side?

Personally we target the USA from the UK very successfully just register .com and promote that.

Sidenote in the future SE's may start looking at IP addresses of servers and start geo targeting that way but I think that's a long way off yet.
