File Maker Pro questions

I am considering a "fun" project for myself, but want to make sure it is possible before I begin. If I creat a photo database in File Maker Pro 6, export that to the web, will I be able to incorporate Flash?

I believe so, but want to make sure.

Now the bigger question, would I be able to burn this to a disk and have it read by people who do not have file maker pro installed locally? Do I need to include a reader?

Appreciate your help

You can export your filemaker db in a variety of formats that will work on the web (csv,tab-separated, etc.), from there you would build a template that would display the db, it is within the template that you could incorporate flash.

I think this is what you are asking.

Yes that is part of my question, thanks. Now will the user need to have File Maker Pro to view it? Do you know if I will have to include a viewer of some sort?

Thanks,

If you plan on distributing the db via cd, yes.

*You may need the developer version of filemaker pro ($$) to include a viewer, it can be done.

Figures - Filemaker has a template that I like and ofcourse would make my life easier. Go figure. Not about to fork over the cash for that edition. I am probably better off getting web space. What do you think

Thanks

Yes, get web space, and get a real database to use. FMP is good for desktop projects, but it won't handle real traffic.

txbakers has it right, I only use Filemaker to model a database locally. When I get what I want, its off to web land..flat file or MySql.

The only other database I know is access and can't seem to get it to work like I want it too. I don't expect much traffic other than from friends and family.

OK, Filemaker pro sucks. I am going to try access or even buy a gallery program. Any suggestions?

Ideally I would like to burn CD's instead of a website so server side scripts aren't my preferance.

Thanks,

access is slightly better for web use. You need something like a mySQL if you want web use. If, however you only need people to read from the database, access will be fine.
