I have been experiencing some major problems uploading Access database to a website. I use Leech FTP and as the database has grown in size (addition of new tables, records, etc) it has become increasingly difficult to complete a successful upload. When I drag and drop the new file, it continually gets rejected and I get an error message saying that the ‘upload was aborted’. This is without the upload actually starting! I have to keep trying the drag & drop and sometimes it takes me an hour+ before I can get the upload to start. Once it starts though, it works ok.
However, of late, the problems have increased in that after the upload starts, a quarter of the way through the process I get the same ‘upload was aborted’ error message! It is becoming near possible to upload successfully, I have to keep doing the drag and drop until I am able to complete it. The last upload took me about 6 hours to complete successfully! It is getting quite serious now that I am also having the same trouble downloading the database, which previously wasn’t a problem.
I would welcome any helpful suggestions and advice that you are able to provide on how to resolve this problem and regain my sanity.
Thanks in advance.
I had similar expierences with those explorer-ftp-plug-ins (asuming this is what you mean with "drag-and-drop"). Like oilman suggested, try using an ftp program - one with an own norton-commander-like interface (local harddrive to the left, server directories to the right). Many programs offer the ability to "resume" an aborted transfer. Personally I (still) prefer WS_Ftp.

Hi HABSHI
What is the size of your Access DB file? I have been using Cute Ftp 4.2, it resumes transfer but sometimes during uploading if there is any connection failure (such as internet DC, Slow speed of net etc) it immediately
locks the file being transfered. At that time you will not be able to upload, delete or even rename the file. Unless it refreshes by itself (typically takes 1/2 an hour).
And as far as your time consuming problem, its disadvantage using Access as database. You had better use SQL or MYSQL.
Best regards
Thanks for all your replies.
I tried using WS FTP to upload but unforunately it didn't help much as I still encountered problems.
However, I have just upgraded my connection to Broadband and that looks to have resolved the issue, really fast upload and download and no annyoing 'upload was aborted' message.
As the database is growing bigger all the time and Access is not really ideal for use on the web, I will eventually convert to MYSQL.
Thanks all
