When you have only one site and a large part of your life is given over to it perhaps you can become too attentive to things that may not matter too much.

What brings this up is that I have just noticed that a particularly nasty porn site has decided to name a folder on their site after the name of my own site.

My site/domain name is two words. Pretty sure I am the only person on the whole WWW who deliberately puts the two words together. When doing an exact match search for the words on Google all 300 odd results are pages from my site or pages that link to/talk about my site. And now there is this porn page.

I guess my questions would be, what would be the reason for them doing it and could my site suffer any negative effects?

Yes.......

I suppose my second question was just to reassure myself.

The first though, why they would do it, is rather interesting though. There must be a reason, there must be something for them to gain from it.

I suppose the only way you will find that out is to drop them a line but if it's an adult site I wouldn't hold your breath on getting a reply

Could it simply be a cheeky way to get traffic from people searching for your site? Is your 2-word phrase often used by people searching specifically for you product/service?

It happens but not often. In any case doing an exact match Google search gives the porn site as the last of 300 odd results so I wish them luck if that's what they are after.

I think the answer could be not as sinister as we might first think. Forget the fact that it is a porn site for one moment.

We live in a big world where great minds think alike, where inventors have fought battles proving they thought of it first. I feel this is more likely the case.

Whatever the nature of the other business, the results would be the same, sadly this one relates to porn.

Thankfully though porn sites are often short lived and like gypsies they are forced to move on.

Ride it out, it won't be long and you will joke about this episode very soon. :)
