Web Master Salaries

Question regarding wage/salary of webmaster accountabilities

Hello all. I am looking for input on webmaster salaries in the midwest (USA).

To be more specific, I have been elevated to a position my company terms "webmaster". This may not be the proper term for the position, as I do no programming, scripting, etc. I am responsible for content, image and marketing of all web sites enterprise-wide (several), I have facilitated development and continued growth of the corporate web site and some divisional web sites. I meet with outside providers for development and marketing opportunities. I also have been asked to critique some of our wholesale customers' websites as they go live.

I don't have a dedicated team. My team is spread across several departments and web development takes them away from other accountabilities, so facilitation has been challenging, though we've accomplished a lot in a short time.

Can anyone on this list give me an idea where the salary range might fall for these accountabilites? Feel free to email me privately if you need further information.

Hello Sue, welcome to WMW - in one of my past lives I had a very similar position and was paid $47K - I did a little scripting on top of everthing else.

I've seen positions such as this range from $35k - $60k depending on the company.

Each of the responses was very helpful, and I've just checked out the salary website. Great site. HR always wants to know "but what are salaries running HERE." And this shows it.

Hi Sue,

In traditional media, your would be considered a Buyer, Advertising Manager, Traffic Manager and Art Director.

Each demands a different salary depending on how much your company is spending on projects.

Not unlike a sales person the more money involved the greater your compensation.

I am in Atlanta, and have seen some
"Junior Webmaster" positions as low as 25K-30K advertised in the paper.

A couple of months ago I saw the only two listings specifically for SEO work I've ever come across. One was in Ft. Lauderdale, FL - job title Search Engine Guru - no salary mentioned. The other was for the Boston, MA area, title Search Engine Specialist with a salary range listed $50K-85K for the position, depending on experience.

There are definitely a lot of variations, depending on geographical area and specific city.
