Cost effective OR free search engine for 1 half million page to index.

Please recommend a good, cheap local web-site search engine, which do not serve any adverts and web search results. Also which can handle about 1.5 million page queries per day and hold an index of 1 million pages.

Google is too expensive + its broked :) any thing else?

I'm not an authority on this at all, but offhand I'd say that your requirements put you all the way up in the custom quote enterprise solution range.

Besides the software implementation it looks like you'd have a large investment in hardware. For example, Google's high end offering that can deliver 1.4 million queries per day consists of 8 rack units plus associated equipment.

I hope somebody else comes along that has a better answer.

I'm no expert either, but I tend to agree with Jim.

With that kind of load you really can't afford to be looking at the "cheap" solutions.

Perhaps you could define cheap?

Shaady, if you give me a suggestion on the volume of documents to index (total size of the HTML), I may be able to point you in the right direction. I worked with one excellent solution, but it's priced according to the volume of indexed documents. 'Unlimited' edition is expensive, but limited size options are affordable.

Can handle 3 million docs on one server. Best part is it's open source.

what I need is a "Hosted Search" by which, the ASP host the indexed database - therefore, we save on server cost and bandwith.

Like Google does, and provides XML feeds :)
