Do you get to see the actual desktop?

Try pressing "ctrl-alt-delete" which should bring up the task manager.

Do file->run
Enter "MSCONFIG"
Click OK.

Try disabling everything that runs at startup from there.

What happens if you boot into safe mode?

I "shut off" everything in startup, but still no desktop. How can I start in safe mode. I was able to access Systemworks but it didn't find anything. Could this be an AOL issue? I downloaded their popup blocker.

To start in safe mode, turn on your computer, wait for the BIOS to load and the memory check to start, and then keep on tapping F8 on the keyboard.

Just after it goes "beep" it should take you to a menu where you can select Safe Mode.
