"About us" link goes on which pages?

On home page or all pages?

Do users expect an "about us" link on every page, or is having one on the home page good enough? Site logs indicate over our half the trackable "About us" traffic originates on the home page (of a site with over 150 pages).

I just created a glossary for the site's rather specialized content, and the "About us" link sits in the perfect place to put it. ;-)

I find that our About Us page is one of the most visited on the site - people want to see who we are before they send us money. I never thought it would be such an important page, but after reviewing the logs, I made sure the page looks good and has lots of information and links to our "sales" pages. We have a link to About Us on almost all pages, as it seems that people want to look at it, so we make it easy for them. I don;t want somebody clicking off our site because they can't find the information they want.

Yes, ofcourse about us link is important but the services/products link is even more important and should be given more importance. because rather than 'who u r' visitors are more interested in'what's in it for me'.

if the products/services appeal to them then sure they will be interested in who u r.

that's it.

My site does environmental literacy education (among other things). We aren't selling anything yet, just pushing ideas. In that case, is having "About us" available direct from every page important, or is a home page link good enough?

hi wilma,

homepage link is ok. About us link will be good.

Actually, what matters is content, persuasive and inspiring content whether u r selling stuff or .org doesnt matter.

Persuasive homepage, inspiring about us and compelling content that does the job.

In my opinion always show the user the next step. what he must do after reading. keep that link it may be any link.

chao!

When building sites I always have a group of key links that are on a consistent location on every page throughout the site, by adding it into the master template. These links typically include:

- Home
- About Us
- Contact Us
- Legal

If it is a membership based site, I add...

- Login / logout / Join

I usually group these links / buttons seperately from the other critical links such as "Products", or "Services", or "Portfolio". I keep the wording the same, as these are the keywords that people are looking for and have become acustomed to using. We don't want to dazzle them with fancy words for commonly used links.

Also, I usually have a graphical menu (example along left side or along top) AND a text version at bottom. Pretty typical setup - but its proven its self time and time again that some people prefer graphical links, while others are fishing around the bottom of your pages using the text links. Having text versions of your main link sets at the bottom also has an SEO value to it.

Homepage is good - also consider the footer links.

Normally, larger sites have the contact us, about us, legal, privacy links in the footer.

Greetings!

I would advise making "about us" a plain menu item, and that's the simple reason why:

Would you prefer the visitor who want to know who is behind the service or product that you offer to:
1) wander back the browser history to the page where he saw it last and possibly never return to the page where he was before, or
2) get the info he wants in one click and proceed filling your order form.

IMHO, the answer should be obvious.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld StanBo!

The about us page should be always 1 click away IMO. Any time I purchase from a online shop other than the big players I ALWAYS visit the about page when I seen an item I want to purchase. By reading the about us page usually I can find out if there reliable.
