Does anyone know of a good "free" webstats program? I keep reading threads where people seem to know the exact time and number of pages the bots are looking at. My server only gives me a very basic set of stats - ie Googlebot and the number of times it's been to my site. I'd really like a bit more indepth information. Thanks

Hi:

Tried AWStats- which looks pretty, but I am not happy with it after trying it for a month or so...

Try Webalizer- free, not as pretty, but it sure is a lot more customizable than awstats.

These people are normally looking there logs to find that information & a free stats package won't give you that type of information, but if any does know of one drop me a line

I let my clients have Webalizer. Two others I tried were Surfstats and Sawmill. I liked them both but went with
Sawmill because I like the way it runs as a web server and the way you can configure it to the Nth degree.
Also, If your willing to beta test for the company they will give you a steep discount; or even the software for free!
I tried a plethora of other ones too but these 3 are the ones that stood out for me.

[flowerfire.com...] -sawmill

[surfstats.com...] surfstats

[webalizer.com...] webalizer

Hope this helps

analog is good too if you're looking for open source on a **nix machine. It should be at analog.com (or org).

It's a little tough to set up but is considered top for open source.

Once you try NetTracker on a free 30 day trial, you'll *want* to pay for it. I've used most of the free ones, and when I finally tried NetTracker, I was hooked.

Personally I use awstats - its not perfect - but free and kept up-to-date.
(note: non-commercial site, so my needs may be different than the average person here.)

Thank you all for your responses. I think what I'm going to be forced to do in order to get the stats I "want" is to change servers. I'm tired of only seeing *.bot = x number of times etc. I can never see which pages nor when the *.bot visited and those are the stats I'm interested in. Again, thanks for your help.

[This isn't as detailed as you want, but anyone arriving at this thread because they are also needing loads of various page and site stats should also consider the online stuff by nedstat.com as well. For beginners this is an easy way, as all you have to do is paste a few lines of code into the page you want tracked.]
