Are there any statistics,which show the general connection speed that users use to connect to the Internet?

That's a really big ground to cover.

I doubt if any figures exist concerning the whole planet.

Perhaps you can focus on some specific countries?

If you target the whole planet actually, assume very slow connections.

Well specific areas would be the UK or Europe?

Modem max. 56K: 44%
ISDN: 35% (esp. in Gernmany there's a lot of ISDN)
DSL: 21%

Also some figures concerning other european countries - check your sticky mail.
