I have to say this first. I have been out with the family (many glasses of wine :) <hic> ) and they have asked me to quantify and explain the work I do. Not an easy question to answer when like me your work is in "Limbo".

I am a *graphic designer* a *web author* and in some part a *webmaster* and (happily?) involved with digital television.(maybe a bit of a JOAT ;) )

I began to talk about my opinions on the eventual symbiotic relationship between television the web and media as we know it but found it hard to explain my predictions for the future of the WWW.

Am I wrong to be an idealist who predicts an eventual and maybe difficult merge between the internet and modern non web based media into a all encompassing form of communication where the boundaries of broadcast TV and web development are harmonious and excepted as one.

Or <hic>

Will the web and the digital faces of TV & film remain in different forms forever divided by the the people who choose to manage information, entertainment and commerce in such a way they cannot be cleverly intergrated.(remember people I am looking at this from the sometimes insular LEEDS uk perspective)

I am probably viewing the growth of the web with rose tinited glasses(couldn't find a better cliche <hic> ) but thought the experience and knowledge here might offer a few thoughts of the (maybe distant) future of what we are doing and its Undeniable relationship with the most powerful form of communication this and last century has ever witnessed?

Right, I have ranted for long enough, off to bed for me - I've a long morning presenting an intranet system called BETTI(yes BETTI) to civil servants :) :(?

Maybe the question is, should people predict the future when they are drunk? What will the future be like if everyone gets drunk? :)

As far as I see it, its just communication, it will go whatever way technology takes it. You can call it a TV, the Internet, "wireless" radio (analogue or digital), the end sum is that you get info from it, and if youre lucky, there's someone to talk back ;)

as far is the future is concerned, I see it going forward, and you waking up with a hangover.

hehe

Wahey :)

Just reread this post with a sober(ish) head. [Note: must not try to match my dad drink for drink when we haven't seen each other for so long]

Cheers for the response BOLan

You are right - people shouldn't try to predict the future when they have had so many cobra's(indian lager). Infact when drinking I think I'll stick to talking about footbal and women - the real lexicons of life :)

Right I'm off to talk about BETTI - see if the civil servants notice my blurry appearance (my boss has :) )
