Clean Design vs Simple vs One Long Page

Which one is the best?

I work for a "company" and of course we have the "big company" prof type site. I have a personal/affil site that is a dirty prof look I guess you would call it. I was starting a new site more in the "simple" type of style for an affiliate site.

Now my question is which works best? Does it matter what your content is? what your selling? or your target audience? or most likely all of the above?

I know what I like and what type of sites I trust, but I know that what I like and do isnt the majority. When I see a 1994 personal site looking website I run away, but do all users?

I saw a recent thread talking about the one page 10000 word marketing pages and how they work and when, but I am not trying to peddle "get rich fast" type of ebooks.

Any ideas? input? thoughts?

I think you should always look at your audience. Since its an affiliate site who would by the product. What do they want to see. Do you have to sell them or are they coming in ready to buy. I think there are a lot of factors that need to be pinned down before you can really design the site.
