My situation is that I have a decent sized website with loads of content and good rankings for many and varied keyphrases, some of which are quite competitive. The website is mainly free information-based, but I also use a small part of it to sell my sports lessons in my city.
Now, there are a couple of competitive keywords related to these sports lessons, and I really want to clean up on them. I've got a couple of strongish competitors. I think I need to move to the next level to hammer these phrases, and I've bought two extra keyword based domains, being learntobbbbbbbb.com and xxxxyyyylessons.com (no hypens or underscore, btw).
I'm planning to create a small site under each of these domains, focusing on the domain keywords and related. I'd use unique content on each, and basically sell my lessons independently on each site. This way I can get more focused inbound links from other sites, and can hopefully get listings in ODP/Yahoo in the right category and keyphrase that I'm not able to on my main site because of it's different focus.
Is this the right approach to be using?
