I have a web site with a lot of graphics and java-scripts. Results: slow loading time for modem users (44 second/56k modem) and I am loosing visitors and buyers.

As I don't want to change the layout or quality of the graphics, I am intend to make a mirror of my web site with a few, low quality graphics. On the main page visitors will find two links where they can choose from to enter the web site.
A cable-users and a modem-users link.

Is this a visitors friendly solution?

Yes that is a good idea... however if you have many pages it will be a pain. If there are graphics in the layout you should cut as many possible out or split them up so they are not big images. What are the javascripts for? If they don't serve an important purpose then you might want to consider cutting them out as well... If the graphics are just like thumbnails, take them off the main site and put them on a separate page with few on each page.
