I use 1024 x 768.
How about you?

Am I right to assume that most people use 800 x 600? Is that your experience?

Nice to see some more responses at this time. I thought during the google update the only thread that people are allowed to post on is the google update thread? ;)

1024x768

But, as with several other replies, I don't run a browsers full screen; and even if I did, I'd have to subtract the space taken by menus and status bars and other stuff.

So the actual window for a website usually maxes at about 700x500.

I tend to set Opera's View/Zoom to 80%

SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600"
EndSubSection

Quoting from your XF86Config file is really geeky, dingman ;)

I've been using 1280x1024 for the past few months, used to be 1024x768

but unless you were looking for more of a power users' feedback reports like these sites have will give you much more information for many more thousands of general visitors (some very current too)

Probably more of a readability issue than anything else.

The real problem here is the eye travel distance. With a wide browser the eye travels longer (relative) distances, the shape of the paragraph turns too flat and is hard to follow. And if the content were adapted to make those <p> more evenly dimensioned then the amount of information per block would be too much, defeating the purpose of paragraphing.

surfing @ 1600 * 1200 on 19" tft and 15" laptop

design on 1280 x 1024 on a 22' iiyama (anything less than 1280x1024 and the start button becomes the size of a mini mars bar)

design to 800 x 600 / 1024x768

1024x768 53
800x600 26
1280x1024 3
1152x864 2
1400x1050 2
1600x1200 1

quite some 800x600, but remember the browser itself takes away different amounts of pixels, more if you use more toolbars and stuff!

800 x 600 for the same reason as glengara - except when checking design.

1024 x 768 & 800 x 600 for Win 2k and RedHat respectively - I'd fear for my eyesight if I were to run at any higher than 1024 x 768!

The majority of my visitors seem to use 800 x 600, but that number is dropping progressively. A big monitor won't necessarily mean that the user is running their browser maximised though...

So it looks like I'm in good company designing with the 800 x 600 user in mind, making sure that there is no horiz scrolling.

Mostly pay attention to I.E. and once in a while check Netscape...
