I'm currently paying £160/mo for a 1Ghz 256Mb Ram, 2 x 20Gb hd
Some of the other biggies are charging £199 for a similar setup, some of the smaller independents about £100-£150.
I have found one site which has to be too good to be true. This rings alarm bells with me. Call me sceptical but I can't see how the following are making a profit:
1.2Ghz Celeron, 256Mb, 40Gb hd, 10Gb b/w £29 a month!
Ok not exactly the same spec as current, but 1/5 the price.
Their top of the range dedicated server:
Dual 1.26 PIII, 1Gb Ram, 60GB hd, 20Gb b/w = £99 a month.
Tell me I'm dreaming people. Where's the catch?
They seem to be a big fish with £15million datacentres etc. But how the heck can they be profitable with prices so much cheaper than the competition?
Eg, additional products / services, etc
Or as they are a large company they may be subsidising the cost to gain market share in the short term.
Or they could be at it! ;)

Why is it a company can be "the best" and "the worst"? Are some of the reviewers stooges?
There does seem to be more negative flak for this hoster though. The concensus is that they are excellent value for money, but really poor on the admin and support side.
But tell me a webhoster who isnt poor on that? All the ones I've been with are.
The only thing that is stopping me from building my own server and running from the office is the rip off leased line costs. Once Oftel sort the leased line mess out and bring proper connections down to under £100 a month rather than under £1000 a month I'll be running me own stuff. Yeh, no problems with support then!
As a non techy, my expectations may be lower than someone who has lived and breathed IT their whole lives.
On the other hand, I expect advertising and marketing to be of a high standard, but my standards may be higher than certain webmasters <points at casino's>. ;)
Scour their TOS for hidden costs and see if their disclaimer says they will pass your info on.
They may be looking to up sell their other services or services of their affiliates to customers.

They reckon they have been around for 10 years and have (or have had 2 million customers).
2 million customers and I've never heard of them until today?
I can't see the catch. The prices are unbelievable and here's the clincher: 100% 60 day money back guarantee.
Heheh,I guess I sound like a sales droid here. But my current ship is holed below the waterline and the skivvies aren't fixing it quick enough. I see this unbelievable offer floating by and I'm about to jump ship.
Help me out here guys. Surely someone has experience of them if they've had 2 million customers?
You either get XYZ is excellent or XYZ is crap. How can you gauge effectively when the difference of opinion is so great?
I found another place where opinions were posted on this hoster. The main grumble seems to be the poor support and the lockin of domain stuff, i.e. difficult to transfer away from them.
I got one reply back from a dude who's been with them 3 years and he's well happy.
Doing a bit of digging it seems they are originally from Germany and thus seem to be Europe's largest.
I think I'll go for it. £99 for a dual PIII with 1Gb ram has to be an absolute bargain.
