For the first ever today, a virus evaded my various precautions, and I had to clean it out.

I looked at my Norton quarantine log and was suprised to see how many had been quarantined in the last week (around 70). They were not from the same source by the way. This is way up on past figures.

Like most webmasters I am vulnerable to virus attacks, and accept it as part of the job.

However are there more round at the moment, or is it just me?

There are quite a few dodgy .exe files going around as well and .exe files appearing as Christmas e-cards.

What I'm most surprised at is that a few of them are around for such extended periods of time lately. It used to be there would be a burst of a new virus and it would start to die down and be gone within a "reasonable" amount of time.

A couple of the newer ones appear to be much more "sticky." Still getting dodgy attachments 8 months to a year later for a couple of the more virulent ones.

And I don't bother to quarantine, I'm not going to do anything with it anyway so I just set Norton to delete suspect attachments -- and I use the delete key in my in box very vigorously.
