I am starting to play around with one of my old laptops from 1996 and want to add some things, unfortunately when I try to add things it asks me to insert my original Windows 98 CD.
What do you do when you lose your original Windows 98 CD?

Unfortunately, buy another one. Perhaps ebay would be your best bet, there are sometime people selling just the CD if the have lost the code or whatever.
Unless anyone else has some great ideas.

Unfortunately laptops often came with all sorts of unique utilities in win98 to support whatever odd hardware features it has. Not sure if a plain win98 cd will work.

You could try to install a free Linux distribution.

Thats great thanks. As long as it does not have to be the orginal and any old win 98 cd will do then that is fine I can pick one up quite easily, it is just when it says it needs to be the original. Thanks.
