I got approached to do a local band's web site.
They have CD after CD of live bar music that needs converted.
I am thinking the best way to go would be MP3 for quality and size.
Is this a safe assumption? If it is, does anybody have a preffered ripping program that they could recomend. I have never gone down this road and I am concerned for overall sound quality but file size is important also as main distribution is going to be the web. There are just buckloads of programs and I am unsure which to go with.
TIA,
Brian
You can compress at different bit rates to get the quality/size balance right. There are alternatives, such as Ogg Vorbis, that may, or may not give better performance, but MP3 is more universally acceptable.
audiograbber is very good too, more easier.
ogg can give smaller size at the vit+rutally the same quality as mp3 and msot programs can play it.winamp can play it and most people use winamp. but to be toaly certain i would go with mp3.
It supports multiple encoders and multiple formats. MP3 is the most commonly used and suported by media players, both embeded and free standing. Also, most streaming players will stream it as easily as their own proprietary format (take that Real).
Good Luck.
