What method of selling a complete site do you find works best.

The last thing I want to do is post on my site something like "this site is for sale" or something like that. do you people use brokers or try to sell privatly.

As it is I want to start a new project but do not have the time to continue to develop my current site, any info gratefully received.

I can't say that I've ever sold an entire site on, but how about contacting your competitors? They may be very interested in buying your data and customer base.

I, personally, would not be in favour of the "This Site is For Sale" notice as it may cheapen the feel of your site as well as putting some of your existing users off returning...

Just my $0.02!

There are many sites devoted to selling web sites, and a few forums I've seen that have a dedicated section for it.

That being said, if you've got significant revenue and traffic I'd suggest dealing with a business broker specializing in the .com sector, unless you've got a good deal of time on your hands and negotiations savvy. They generally work on commision in the event of successful sale.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Right now I am really keen to get my hands dirty with a new project. the head sells drop the old site the heart says hold on to it.

I might be in with a chance of winning this argument (with myself) :)
