A company has contacted me relating to pop under ads, I've never used this type of marketing and I'm considering it for a new site. My return would only need to be .01% to break even but I don't know what type of returns these services offer. My only thought is that when I come up against pop ups I close them as fast as I can but I know a lot of people also make a good living from them

The company I'm considering is offering

Targeted worldwide traffic (UK only)
Keyword Targeted
50,000 hit's $149

Any feedback would be apreciated

If they're keyword targeted I'd say go for 'em. Just make sure you've got good creative. I've had really good luck making pop-overs and pop-unders work for me.

For every person like you and me who close the stupid windows (or use pop-up killer apps), there are tons of people who look at them.

be afraid, very afraid :)

To be honest as Hawkgirl pointed out, they DO work for some people, however i have a feeling I know the people who have approached you offering this deal.

Without naming names, there are only a handful of operators who deliver the results, and frankly speaking at $149 that isnt going to cut it.

just my advice.

<<If they're keyword targeted I'd say go for 'em.>>

If they're keyword targeted, check very carefully into how that's done. If it's triggered by keywords on sites they own or have agreements with, that's one thing. But some programs operate by downloading spyware onto the computers of unsuspecting users and then spawning popups / popunders triggered by keywords on sites the user visits, in other words using other sites' content in ways they have NOT agreed to. Many site owners consider that a violation of copyright, and call such predatory programs parasites, scumware, thiefware, etc. etc.

If that's what the program is doing, they will describe it with business bafflegab verbiage so that it's hard to tell what's really happening.

Investigate carefully for both ethical and practical reasons. Hopefully your own ethical standards would prevent you from wanting to deal with a predatory advertiser, and also, a company whose business model is based on a form of high-tech theft might be prone to ripping off customers too.

could someone please specify a ballpark figure of what you would expect to pay for (cost per thousand) pop ups. I have been aproached and am not so sure about their price. seams a bit on the steep side.
