Forum Moderators: phranque
I keep getting solicitied by Traffic Swarm. Their scheme is that they pop up a window when you leave a site. The pop-up contains ads. Its like a banner exchange program but is a pop-up exchange program. The thought is that if a surfer is leaving your site, there is nothing lost by spaming them with a pop-up. So if I had this on my site, as some one tried to leave, I would pop'em. THe pop up would contain ads for other sites, not my own. Likewise those other sites would have the same deal except perhaps there pop-up would contain my ad. The more users that leave your site and receive a pop-up the greater number of times your ad appears in the pop-up of other sites.
My concern is that search engines will probably frown on this activity and might even ban a site that uses this form of advertisement. Then again, many sites hit you with pop-ups when you first hit their site. THey offer free shipping or want you to know about some special. I don't like those any better, but there does not seem to be any repercussion from using them
Seems like the risk is too great
Any thoughts?
I too hate....HATE... pop ups. But being a webmaster I tend to be sensitive to such things. So I thought I would be open minded and give it a try. If no traffic came from it, the plan was to quickly remove it.
Well, I put the code on last night and gave it a try. Turned out that instead of a pop-up on exit, a pop-up appeared for every page you surfed on my site. I quickly removed the code and sent a message to their tech support.
Get this, they said that there code does not do that. Ha!
