A company CEO wants to provide regular feed back sessions to staff using 3min videos run on the company website. The video is not live and will just be a video file on the server.

We've captured the presentation as an .avi using the CEO's Polycom webcam and software. However, when played on staff members desktop PC's with standard inboard speakers, using Windows Media Player, the sound is inaudible. (Yes, we have checked the speaker volume settings)

Is this a codec thing or am I going off in the wrong direction? My video knowledge is almost nil.... can anyone point me in the right direction?

It is difficult to say with the limited information provided!

Does the audio play ok, when originally captured from the camcorder (assuming you are capturing, then outputting in a different format)?

I have found Microsoft Media Player Encoder to be the best tool for creating video clips for PCs. I'd advise you to try this method, from your original capture file.
