Generally, we try to avoid discussion of specific companies in the forums... the potential is too great for encouraging overtly promotional (and covertly promotional... even worse! ;) ) posts from affiliates and employees of the companies being discussed. It simply becomes too difficult to separate substantive, honest evaluations from promotional ones.

However, there have been a number of discussions about general features and policies to look for in a web host in the past... you might want to try the "site search" link at the top of the page and look for the phrase "web hosting" to see what you turn up. :)

based on what you need I don't believe you are going to find what you need with a 'budget' host. Be careful of any 'unlimited bandwidth' deals. They always include a caveat that says they can pull the plug if you are bringing the system to it's knees.

Try Westhost [westhost.com].

WebmasterWorld is hosted there, and this site sees a LOT of traffic (how much I don't know, but have you seen the recent or active threads page [webmasterworld.com] it's huge).

And, if you hang out for a while, you'll notice how fast, reliable, and steady it responds to the users. :)

I've heard from mardi_gras that you have to access mySQL only with telnet, and that is... ugly...

Even tho, I'm still counting them as a valid option...

Don't just take my word for it (even though I host a site with Westhost) - here's the user manual:

Westhost and Pair both have their strengths, as I have outlined in a sticky to you.
