Pros / Cons of IM on a Corporate site

I am looking for some pros and cons on using a form of instant messengaing on corporate sites. This would include both pull and push technologies. What are expections for future launches?

Any info would help.

Currently, the only corporate websites using this technology are those that develop such products (for technology demonstration).

PROS:

1) Quicker than email and more convenient than telephone
2) Will result in more enquiries.

CONS:

Needs to be manned by a person who is very knowledgeable about the products/services. This person should be given other responsibilites in the company, like sales assistance.

I use one for tech support - gives me an advantage over the competition. The user can click a button to chat with a designer immediately so we can identify and fix problems quickly.

Epson have quite a good one for problem solving.
