Babelfish at a price

Is this legal?

A client sent me a communication he had from someone wanting to sell him translations into 8 languages

"We recently translated your site into eight languages (for your eyes only). Please click <snip> translated to see samples and to find out how you can make <snip> multilingual for only $5 a month."

Follow the source code and its merely using Babelfish

Can't say I would recommend my clients spending the money ;) ...but one wonders at the legality

Maybe I'm legally naive but I don't see how it's really a problem as long as it's clear you're only paying for their time to cut and paste or process stuff through babelfish. BF is just a tool same as a text or html editor etc.

That said BF translations are usually pretty weak and are only good for getting the gist of stuff. If I were going to translate stuff into other languages I'd pay to have it professionally done.

Yup, I've had a few of them too. Good spam, actually held my attention for 3/10 of a second

You may as well translate into Elmer Fudd for all the good a bablefish translation is going to do any potential customers. Its not illegal, it will just make the site in question look unprofessional. Bablefish is great for giving you the gist of a document- but not much good for serious translation.

I have received a few of those, if they get any clients then well... good luck to them.

I don't think there are any legal implications but it's not something I would do :)
