I saw some stuff such as live person .com where you can run software so as to chat in real time with the person on your website providing support to them and closing the sale. Has anyone used services such as this and if so, I'm curious as to what you thought about them. Primarily, what did you find yourself using it for the most, what limitations did you run into, and how effective was it for converting to sales?

We used Human Click when it was free for 6 months a year ago on a commercial site. We sold several major projects from people using it (new clients). After it became very expensive for small sites/companies like ours we had to drop it.

The whole area is becoming more competitive now and we are now trialing a new system which is $20 US a month - much more affordable, lighter with just a few less features than Human Click (who think changed their name to Live Helper.

There are also some script systems which you can use from your own server going for around $100 to 200 USD one offer price for the software. UInstallation seems resonably easy for anytbody who knows perl scripts.

My feeling is that it can really humanize your site.

Most systmes I know use java or js meaning that it only works in such enabled browsers.

Only a few people seem to click, but those that do ARE interested.

We were worried aboyt the effect of the scripts and going to a third part server on SEO, but no discrenable problem with Human Click when we tried it. Only problem is if the thirs part server is down it will slow down your site loading, so keep the facility out of tables and at the bottom, even if you have a hylerlink from the top of your page down to the bottom.

The OPD directory has a section on thse, (cant remember the cat at present), but im sure if you do a search for Live Helper, ClickChatSold and Human Click, in Google it will come up with the ODP cat.

Good luck!

I found a great software, I actually bought it and am using it and my clients really like it as well. AbsoluteLiveSupport from Xigla Software in Columbia.

Once catch - it only runs on Windows servers.

I like it very much.

We use Live Person on one of our Web sites, and it has been helpful because it also "dings" when someone is surfing, not just clicking to talk.

We can watch their activity and be prepared to discuss the sections they just visited.

Is there a charge for Live Person? And where can I get information about it?

What would you think of a product that offered a similar technology to this live help stuff, but also added in the option to train(using examples - nothing complicated) the software to be able to answer simple questions on its own, such as FAQ type of material. A mid level AI representative that would pass the hard questions on to a real person.

We use a very simple live help chat script on our site... as someone else said: not many people click on it, but the ones who do are interested. I usually refer 'help clients' through to our 800 number after a couple of questions, and they almost always place an order.

I only installed the "click for help" link on our website store pages... a good tactic to ensure you're not spending a bunch of time helping people who aren't really shopping.
